Frequently Asked Questions
What do you write?
Sci-fi, Fiction, Mystery, and Romance are where I keep my genres. They are genres I am comfortable writing in and enjoy doing so. My book has a mix of all of these genres in it. I have written a book and plan to write more, but my favorite stories are short stories in the style of episodes.
How do you stay focused?
Music mostly! I have music playing 24/7 in the background. I practically can not live without it. Even when I am out I have something playing somewhere somehow to keep me grounded. Cutting out anything that will pull my attention for more than five minutes helps as well! Little distractions are okay as they keep the mind active, but ones that completely pull you away from writing are not.
Where do you find the inspiration?
This one is a loaded question. The short answer is everything and anything! More general I get my inspiration from other authors, movies, music, and even my dreams! I keep a dream journal where I write down what I can remember and many times it’s inspired some of my stories.
How do you beat writer’s block?
Writers block is an old friend of mine. We argue often, but in the end I offer space and my desire to write returns to me. It is OK to take a few days to yourself. You DO NOT need to write 2000 words a day. That is a quick way to run into burn out. A good author once said that the best strategy is to write when you feel like it, never force it. Write as much as you can but don’t beat yourself up if you can’t meet the goal. The words often write themselves. There were days I found myself writing more than my goal for that day, which usually made up for the days I could not.
How did you beat dyslexia?
Trick question! I did not. I still struggle with my dyslexia every day. If it were not for the tools we have in modern society my typos, grammar, and spelling would certainly show it! On the other note, I do write almost every day. I have been an avid roleplayer since my early middle school years. This provided me with the time to watch other writers to observe their styles, learn new vocabulary, and get better advice and feedback on how to improve my own writing. It took a lot of time and effort to get to where I am now and I still struggle with my dyslexia on a daily basis. I have just found better ways to work around it.
